Tornado warning in ND and severe thunderstorm warnings in Manitoba


Severe Weather Statement National Weather Service Grand Forks ND 224 PM CDT Sun Jul 28 2019 ...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 300 PM CDT FOR CENTRAL NELSON COUNTY... At 224 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Mapes, or 29 miles southeast of Devils Lake, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD...TORNADO and ping pong ball size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation. IMPACT...Expect damage to mobile homes, roofs, and vehicles. This dangerous storm will be near... Mapes around 235 PM CDT. Michigan around 245 PM CDT.

  • R.M. of Piney incl. Sandilands and Sprague

  • R.M. of Reynolds incl. Ste. Rita Hadashville and Rennie

  • R.M. of La Broquerie incl. Marchand

  • R.M. of Stuartburn incl. Zhoda Vita and Sundown

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a pair of severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 90 km/h.

At 2:20 PM CDT Doppler RADAR indicated that the first severe thunderstorm was located about 10 km northeast of Vita and was moving toward the northeast at 30 km/h.

At 2:20 PM CDT Doppler RADAR indicated that the second severe thunderstorm was located about 10 km north of Woodridge and was moving toward the northeast at 30 km/h. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
