Clearing is observed in southern Manitoba this afternoon. Solar heating, combined with an approaching front, will promote thunderstorm development in the next few hours in parts of southwestern Manitoba.
The ingredients are in place for strong to severe thunderstorms to occur this afternoon into the evening hours. Severe thunderstorm watches have been issued by Environment Canada:

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Thunderstorms are developing along a cold front in southwestern Manitoba this afternoon. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe. Thunderstorm activity will taper off later this evening.
Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
