Lake-effect snow to bring significant snowfall to Ontario and New York

Snow squalls today into tonight.

Snow squalls are forecast to persist into the overnight hours, with the most intense snow squalls expected this morning and afternoon. Furthermore, strong northwest winds gusting to 60 km/h will result in widespread blowing snow.

Additional local snowfall amounts of 20 to 35 cm are possible by Thursday morning. The snow squalls are forecast to gradually weaken overnight and Thursday morning.

Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Road closures are possible.

...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST THURSDAY... * WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches in the most persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will produce blowing and drifting snow. * WHERE...Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties. * WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult with deep snow cover on roads and very poor visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.
