Funnel cloud prompts tornado warning for Saskatchewan

5:33 PM CST Monday 02 September 2019 Tornado warning in effect for:

  • R.M. of Edenwold including Balgonie and Piapot Res.

  • R.M. of Lumsden including Lumsden Regina Beach and Craven

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado. At 5:30 PM CST the public reported a funnel cloud near Lumsden. This severe thunderstorm is moving toward the southeast at 40 km/h.

In addition to a tornado, this severe thunderstorm also has the potential to produce quarter-sized hail and wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.
