Extreme cold warnings expand into eastern Manitoba

Valid as of 4:15pm CST

Warnings

3:29 PM CST Saturday 02 March 2019 Extreme Cold Warning in effect for areas in red

A period of very cold wind chills is expected. An arctic ridge of high pressure continues to usher in frigid Arctic air to much of the prairies. Overnight temperatures near minus 30c combined with light to moderate northerly winds will produce wind chill values of -40 to -45 tonight into Sunday morning. Wind chill values will moderate by early Sunday afternoon with day time heating. Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill. If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.
