Several rounds of strong to potential severe thunderstorms are expected today in most of southern Manitoba and southeastern Saskatchewan. Heavy rain and small hail will be the main hazard with these storms.
Manitoba
Area(s): Southern and Central
Timing: Saturday afternoon, evening, and overnight
Threats: Hail 3-5 cm, wind gusts to 110 km/h, and localized heavy rainfall in excess of 50 mm
Thunderstorms will develop early in the afternoon along a trough of low pressure stalled near the Saskatchewan border. The severe weather threat is highest in the southwest corner of the province, where multiple rounds of thunderstorms may be possible throughout Saturday and Saturday night. High rainfall totals will also be a concern with multiple storms in the moisture rich environment.
The threat for storms won't only be for today in Manitoba, but tomorrow as well. A low pressure is slowly moving east across the Prairie Provinces and this will bring multiple rounds of strong to potentially severe thunderstorms across southern Manitoba Saturday AND Sunday.
