It was an extremely cold night for everyone in the Prairie Provinces, but even more so for some cities in southern Manitoba that were in the mid -30C with wind chills exceeding -50.
Areas such as Virden, Brandon and Carberry experience some significantly low wind chills at midnight into early morning Friday. It was colder in this area of Manitoba than in Churchill!
Warnings
3:43 PM CST Thursday 07 February 2019 Extreme Cold Warning in effect for Manitoba
A period of very cold wind chills is expected. Wind chill values in the -40 to -50 range can be expected tonight through Friday morning as bitterly cold northerly winds ahead of a ridge of high pressure continue to affect southern Manitoba. Winds should diminish by Saturday as the ridge moves over the area, but below-normal temperatures are expected to persist.
Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.
